Top 5's of 2012! - Bete Smith

Next up on our "Top 5's of 2012" we have my friend Bete Smith! His interview is in the works and will be posted early in the new year!

Here we go!

Flying Lotus – Until the Quiet Comes: another great album by one of my favorite artists.

Killer Mike – R.A.P. Music: sounds like 1990-1992-era Ice Cube without the posturing; great production by El-P, too.

Outkast – Aquemini: still underappreciated; still incredible.

Shabazz Palaces – Black Up: truly unique record by former leader of Digable Planets; great mix of clean and gritty elements, rapping, spoken word and singing. Jealous that I didn’t make this one.

Death Grips – No Love Deep Web: Public Enemy + Downward Spiral-era NIN. Heavy, amazing stuff. Cheeky artwork and a big middle finger to their label, deliberately forcing Epic to release them from their contract. Actually their second brilliant album of 2012.
